I've read this book multitudes of times now, and I thought I would finally write a review of it. This is a good book, or at least good enough to me that I would read it multiple times. Even though I can nearly vividly visualize every scene in the book before I reach it, I have gotten a certain amount of joy out of reading it. If there was one thing I have to say negatively about the book is that at times it became difficult to know which of the characters was thinking or talking. While I don't mind that different characters have their points of view or thoughts portrayed within a single chapter, sometimes within a single page, it is extraordinarily difficult to know which character I was listening to.I also really loved the ending, and that the parents showed how much they cared for their daughter. I like books that tie up the endings in a nice little bow, even if it wasn't a happy ending (which this one is a happy ending so to speak). All in all, this was a book to cry to. I have read this book twice and will read it again. The first time was a rush to see if the couple survive and get safely home. The second reading was to enjoy the story. In both cases I could not put it down. The prose and dialogue is great. There is a lot of humor too. The text flows beautifully. I have some reservation about the realism of the mission the couple was sent on. Why was it necessary? Who was being protected? A lot of unanswered questions. These in no way detract from the story. I also wondered if the cabin could have been made warm enough for all the nude romping in the frozen wilderness of a Canadian winter, with heating limited to 2 open fireplaces in the log cabin. A very efficient log burner would have been necessary! I am sure readers will love the way the main characters personalities are revealed. These tough DI's have soft centers.
