This book is a lot of tell, tell, tell, repetition and spoon feeding. FFS, make me think!I kept thinking that the BSI = Bull Sh!t Institute, I couldn't get it out of my mind.= which was not very conducive to taking something seriously.It needed two POV. Cooper is a one dimensional narrator, ensuring a lack of depth.I love social commentary in my fiction but I don't like it being so blatant. I like it being clever and organic to the story. I want to feel it unfolding. I want to feel incensed at injustice, not bludgeoned by it.Also, I knew the cool, good looking guy Cooper ran into was going to be his new partner.I'm totally calling BS on the resection of Cooper's bowel, and 6 foot not needing a bag of some description - colostomy or stoma. IV fluids for only a couple of days - pffft.What is it with (the word) hipster?The author's writing style and I didn't hit it off either. I felt like words were used... awkwardly.It's little things that added up to a sum total of me not enjoying what should have been a personal slam dunk - werewolves (paranormal) and detective work, ordinarily some of my favourite things. This is a good adventure, thriller mystery, with m/m romance as a parallel storyline. The story is told from Conner's point of view. A BSI agent, Conner is one of those who works to solve werewolf crimes while keeping knowledge of werewolves from the general public. He is half of a trial partnership, with Park, a representative of the wolves' leading organization. They are sent to Maine to tackle a murder mystery.Suspicious of each other, of every character they meet in Maine, and even of a few people back home, Conner and Park are under a lot of pressure. Conner has a lot of unanswered questions about werewolves, and part of the story is his growing understanding of the wolves. It's a nice touch and allows the world building portion of the story to flow fairly easily...we learn as he does.Recommended, smooth story professionally written, sharp dialogue. Very occasional wrong word and one briefly inconsistent plot point that must have missed the final edit. (Can you spot it?)Occasional chuckle as Conner critiques himself and the world. Intimate m/m scenes a couple of times ,does not derail story. Angst only a small part of the story:, the main characters are estranged to varying extents from their families, and the murder victims are not much mourned. Loneliness is a theme echoing throughout...how you can choose it at some point in life and get stuck in it. I find Conner likable. Park is hot but we don't know much about what makes him tick or how he thinks.
