I am really annoyed with the author for making this a cliffhanger book without being open with the reader and announcing it as a continuing story, especially, when the second book (of how many?) is not even out yet.I never begin a series, when there are not all books available, as I read so many books that the content gets muddled in my head till a further book is published. So I would never have started reading this book, if I had known that beforehand.<<< So, AUTHOR, be honest with your readers and describe your book truthfully !!!! >>>I am so annoyed at the ending, that even the three stars is more than I would normally give in my current mood.But the writing so far was halfway decent and a lower rating not justified.Though the connection between the main characters had some weaknesses and emotional depths are avoided rather than told or shown in the story and in some aspects I would have wanted more, as for the innocent heroine some aspects did not sound entirely true, and some arguments, especially the causualness about requiring a tow truck for the heroine's car, make no sense, the story pacing overall was gripping. But at the end of the book, the book should have had an ending, not an announcement of a continuation.Just a lazy way of trying to wiggle out more money from your readers.As the second book is not out yet, I am not sure if I will continue. Depends on how many books I read in between and if I still remember this one, when the second book comes out in a few months time.(This book easily could have had a four of even five star rating, if the author had been honest in the description. But even the newsletter announcement alerting me to this book had not mentioned that it was a continuing story, but declared it to be a stand-alone by this author.And the description of the book especially mentiones:"SECRET BEAST is a new full-length novel from USA Today bestselling author Amelia Wilde about revenge, family secrets, and the redeeming power of love."A lie and really annoying !) can this author just write a book? a whole f- ing book? i am so angry with myself. i've purchased a couple of other books by her and both were cliffhangers and personaly, i think that's lame. so, with that said, i promised mysef that i woudn't purchase any more of her books. ugh!! i'm sooo pissed! this book seemed like it would be so good and the reviews were positive and at the time didn't say there was a cliffhanger. i should have known. my bad.i read to escape, not to wait around for the other half to be finished. i read to live vicariously, not to stress about what will happen next when the rest comes out in 2 months for another 4.99. i honestly feel like i'm in first grade again, waiting out on the playground to hear back if little tommy likes me or not. sheesh, i don't have time for this and quite frankly, i feel like i paid too much for this NOT to be finished.console yourself, ms. wilde, by telling yourself that this reader just doesn't get what you are trying to accomplish and i probably am not. nope. i also won't be buying anymore of your unfinished books. again, my bad. i knew i shouldn't have trusted you.
